Why NOT Deciding Is Still A Decision

Will you read this or not? ... and other big decisions.

How many times have we found ourselves stuck in the limbo of indecision, paralyzed by the fear of making the wrong choice?

*Please tell me I’m not just preaching to myself here 😆

We wait, we hesitate, and sometimes, we end up not making a decision at all.

But here's the catch: By not deciding, we are deciding to stay stagnant. No decision IS a decision.

Let’s unpack that!

We stall on making decisions for a lot of reasons: perfectionism, fear of failure, sunk cost fallacy…

And while it’s healthy to sit back and take a few days or even weeks to make an important decision, when we don’t make a decision purely due to indecision then Houston, we’ve got a problem. 😬

Let’s take a classic example—a decision you have to make everyday for your entire life—what do you want for dinner?

We've all been there: pondering over various options until we run out of time or settle for something that doesn't truly satisfy our cravings. You end up with a bowl of cereal instead of the chicken and rice you probably would have enjoyed way more and felt better after eating.

Similarly, in business, indecision can hinder progress. 📈

Each day presents us with countless decisions, big and small, that shape the trajectory of our future. Whether it's launching a new product or investing in marketing campaigns, hesitation stops growth and can lead to missed opportunities.

“But what if I make the wrong decision, Bianca? Isn't THAT a risk too?”

^Absolutely, but it's also an opportunity to learn and grow.

Failure is not the opposite of success; it's a stepping stone toward it. I’ve never listened to a podcast or read a book from a CEO who said every single decision they made was perfect and that’s why they’re successful. In fact, it’s quite the opposite.

There is no way to know unless you just start doing and trying. If it's the wrong decision, you learn from it. If it's the right decision, you keep going, but not making a decision is often the riskiest choice of all.

Let’s make decisions and fail forward together.

TLDR: Indecision is a decision—it’s a choice to stay stagnant or settle for the most convenient option. In business, this can hold us back from growth. I encourage you to make a decision this week that helps you move forward, even if it doesn’t all go exactly ‘as planned’!
