9 Signs It's Time for a Website Refresh

Your website is more than just an online presence – it's your digital storefront and the face of your brand. Just like any brick and mortar store, it requires regular upkeep and occasional updates to ensure it remains relevant and effective.

Imagine you walk into a boutique and the plants are dead, there's dust on the counters and the same summer sale is going on, even though it's winter...I'm sure you'd turn around and walk right out. If they don't care about their store, how would they be able to best serve their customer?

Your website may not look as dramatic as what I just described, but the sentiment is the same. So, how do you know when it's time for some updates?

Here are nine signs that it's time for a website refresh:

  1. Do you feel good sending people to your site? Your website should be a source of pride, not embarrassment. If you hesitate to share your site with others because it doesn't accurately represent your brand or offer a positive user experience, it's time for a refresh.

  2. Have you updated or made any significant changes to the site in the last 3 years? A website is not a one-and-done project. It requires regular maintenance and updates to keep up with changing trends and technologies. If your site has remained stagnant for several years, it's likely due for a refresh.

  3. Is your website easy to navigate? User experience is paramount in today's digital age. If visitors struggle to find what they're looking for on your site due to confusing navigation or cluttered layouts, it's time to streamline and simplify.

  4. Does your site produce good leads for your business? Your website should be a powerful lead generation tool. If it's failing to attract and convert visitors into leads or customers, it may be due to outdated design or messaging that doesn't resonate with your target audience.

  5. Do you have any info on your site that no longer serves your business or new info that is not present on your site? Your website should reflect the current state of your business. If there are outdated or irrelevant information lingering on your site, or if you've introduced new products or services that aren't showcased, it's time for an update.

  6. Are you using outdated stock photos or photography? Visuals matter. If your website is filled with generic stock photos or low-quality imagery, it's time to invest in high-quality visuals.

  7. Is your website mobile-friendly? With the majority of internet users accessing websites on mobile devices, having a mobile-friendly website is non-negotiable. If your site isn't optimized for mobile, you're likely losing out on valuable traffic and leads.

  8. Are you able to view analytics - like site traffic and bounce rate? Data is key to understanding how your website is performing. If you're unable to access analytics such as site traffic, bounce rate, and conversion rates, you're flying blind. A website refresh can include implementing proper analytics tracking to gain valuable insights.

  9. Is it easy for you to make small changes to the site? As your business evolves, so should your website. If making even minor updates or changes to your site requires extensive technical knowledge, it's time for a refresh to adopt a more user-friendly content management system.
